Our lead nurse, Sister Saria Tahir has almost 2 decades of experience working at Laserase Bolton, treating patients for their hair and skincare concerns. Here, she explains what PRP is and talks about its benefits for hair restoration and skin rejuvenation.
What is PRP?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a therapy for hair loss or skin rejuvenation. It is a three-step medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp or skin.

How does PRP work?
PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft.
If you have fine lines underneath your eyes, PRP can be very effective at improving the visibility of your fine lines.
When do you carry out PRP treatment?
Very often, PRP is recommended by a medical healthcare professional and combined with other procedures such as hair transplants. If you have had a hair transplant, it is recommended you use PRP to promote hair growth going forward.
At Laserase Bolton, we have carried out PRP for men and women who have experienced hair thinning and people who have had hair transplants. Most often, our clients have their transplant abroad to keep costs to a minimum and attend our medical clinic for the PRP follow up treatment.
How is PRP treatment administered
The treatment is administered in 3 simple steps:
Step 1: We take blood from your arm and put your blood into a machine to rapidly spin your blood.
Step 2: After 10 minutes of spinning, your blood will be separated in 3 layers:
- Platelet rich plasma
- Platelet poor plasma
- Red blood cells
Step 3: We take the platelet rich plasma and inject it into your scalp to promote hair growth or your skin to improve the appearance of fine lines.
How many treatment sessions are required?
PRP procedure to promote hair growth initially requires 3 treatments carried out 4-6 weeks apart. PRP treatment for skincare varies from person to person. It is best to book a consultation with a nurse to determine your treatment path.
Maintenance will be required every 4-6 months and is guided by our qualified doctor and nurses at our medical clinic.
Always ensure a medically qualified professional is carries out your treatment.
