A new book reveals that on average a woman who uses a shaver for hair removal will spend approximately $10,000 (£6,500) and eight weeks of her life managing unwanted hair.
Plucked: A History of Hair Removal, by Rebecca M Herzig, also claims that a woman who waxes twice a month will spend approximately $23,000 (over £15,000) during the course of her life.
As a result, the study shows that laser hair removal can work out as a cheaper and less time consuming alternative to shaving and waxing by offering a more permanent solution.
Julie Kershaw, Clinic Manager at Laserase Bolton, said: “As all women know, getting rid of unwanted body hair can be a real chore, especially at this time of year when the weather is nice and you want to wear your summer clothes. As this study shows, it’s amazing just how much time and money women can end up spending on temporary hair removal.
“When you look at it like this, laser hair removal is a much more attractive and affordable option as the result is virtually permanent. As well as saving time, laser hair removal can save you money, as it means you don’t need to keep spending year after year on temporary solutions such as waxing or shaving.”
The pressure for women to remove body hair is highlighted in a recent Mintel report, Men’s and Women’s Shaving and Hair Removal UK 2014, which shows that three quarters of UK consumers believe there is more pressure nowadays for women to remove body hair. Indeed, just 8% of women have not removed hair in the UK in the past 12 months.
