Laserase Bolton welcomes cooling off period for cosmetic procedures

Laserase Bolton has welcomed new guidance from the General Medical Council to make surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures safer.

Laserase Bolton has welcomed new guidance from the General Medical Council to make surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures safer.

Doctors who carry out cosmetic procedures must allow patients time to think before agreeing to go ahead with treatment, according to the new guidance, which has been produced by the General Medical Council (GMC) to make cosmetic procedures, such as facelifts, dermal fillers and Botox, safer.

Julie Kershaw, Clinic Manager at Laserase Bolton, said: “We welcome any steps that improve the safety of cosmetic treatments and the new guidance will help to make patients more aware of the implications of the procedures they are having. It will also give people more time to decide if it is right for them.

“At Laserase Bolton, all our patients are invited to a free, no obligation consultation in order to assess their suitability for treatment and to discuss the different treatment options available. We believe it is important to understand our patients’ needs and to listen to any concerns they may have. We always recommend that people think carefully about the treatment they choose, before going ahead.”

Some of the key points in the new GMC guidance are that doctors will be open and honest with patients and not trivialise the risks involved; they will give patients enough time and information before they decide whether to have a cosmetic procedure and allow them time to ‘cool off’; and they will ask patients to tell them how they have been affected by a cosmetic procedure, both physically and psychologically, and check whether they are satisfied with the outcome.

Laserase Bolton is one of the leading laser clinics in the North West of England, providing a complete range of non-surgical skin health solutions. It has been established for over 20 years and all of its practitioners are qualified doctors and nurses.

The General Medical Council, which sets the standard that UK doctors who carry out cosmetic procedures are expected to follow, will now consult the public and doctors about the guidance.
